prof. Ing. Petr Konvalinka, CSc., rektor, ČVUT v Praze
Professor Petr Konvalinka (b. 1960) was president of the Academic Senate of the Czech Technical University in Prague for eight years. He graduated in Construction and Transport Structures from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague in 1984, and supplemented his studies at the Czech Institute of Mining, working among other things on blasting technology. He has been teaching at CTU since the 1980s, and he habilitated in 2002. For the last ten years, Prof. Konvalinka has been in charge of the Experimental Centre of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. He has written five sets of study notes and over 20 papers published in prestigious journals. He also works on practical applications: he is a co-author of patents, an authorized engineer for construction statics and dynamics and the co-author of structures constructed in the Czech Republic and abroad (the observation tower at Karlín, the footbridge in Beroun, three motorway bridges at Gatwick (London)).
