Esben Østergaard is co-founder of Universal Robots.
As researcher and assistant professor in robotics and user interfaces at University of Southern Denmark (2001-2005), Esben Østergaard was part of creating the foundation for a reinvention of the industrial robot.
In 2005, he founded Universal Robots with two research colleagues, and in his present position as Chief Technology Officer at Universal Robots, Esben Østergaard is responsible for the enhancement of existing UR robots and the development of new products.
He was born in 1974 in Shiraz, Iran, where his dad worked as an Engineer for 5 years. The family moved to Cebu, Philippines, in 1978 where he started school. In 1981 they settled in Denmark, and young Esben played with LEGO, until he got a Commodore 64 in 1984. That naturally led to robotics.
Esben Østergaard has received numerous awards and prizes on behalf of Universal Robots and he is a highly requested speaker all over the World.
